The chinar (oriental plane) trees of Srinagar turn red and gold from about the last week of October to mid-November. The best places are the Mughal gardens (Nishat, Shalimar), Naseem Bagh, Char Chinari on Dal Lake and the Hazratbal shore. Go in the early morning for soft light and few people.
When the chinars turn
Colour usually starts in late October and peaks in the first two weeks of November, then leaves fall quickly with the first cold winds. A warm autumn can push the peak later; a cold snap can bring it forward. We watch the trees and tell you the best days for your trip.
