February is Kashmir's second snow month and often the best for skiing: Gulmarg's snow is deepest and the New Year crowds are gone. Chillai Kalan has ended, but it's still cold, with shorter, gentler cold spells. The road to Leh is usually still closed. Late in the month, the first almond blossoms can appear in Srinagar.
