Srinagar to Leh Road Trip: 7 Nights / 8 Days

Overland to Leh, Then Nubra and Pangong

You leave Srinagar on Day 2 for Kargil, with the Drass War Memorial and Suru valley views, continue to Leh on Day 3, then rest on Day 4 before Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa. Nubra (Hunder dunes, Bactrian camels, Diskit monastery) and Pangong follow, and Day 8 drives back to Leh for the airport.

It skips a Sonmarg night and the Srinagar sightseeing days of the Kashmir + Ladakh plan, so it is the shorter way to travel overland. Suggested period: June to September.

Ladakh Route Planning

• Day 2: Srinagar to Kargil. Day 3: Kargil to Leh.
• Day 4: a planned rest day in Leh. Day 5: Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa.
• Day 6: Leh to Nubra. Day 7: Nubra to Pangong, with a cold night by the lake.
• Day 8: drive back to Leh for the airport.

Practical Preparation for This Trip

• Arrival: share your flight or train number and time as soon as you book it. Your driver meets you at Srinagar airport or the railway station, and how much of day one remains depends on your arrival.
• Clothing: choose by the month you travel. Modest, comfortable clothing suits mosques and shrines (covered shoulders and knees), and shoes that slip off easily are practical.
• Ladakh: expect strong sun, cold evenings and thin air. Pack sun protection, warm layers and any medicines you take, and speak to your own doctor about altitude. The plan keeps its rest day, so do not plan strenuous activity on arrival.
• Walking: the record rates every scheduled day as easy. Tell us if stairs, slopes or long drives are a concern.
• Luggage: tell us the number and size of bags when you ask for a quote. It decides whether a sedan is enough or a larger vehicle is better. See the vehicle pages for luggage guidance.
