Phase 1 rises through pine forest to Kongdoori, the snow-play area in winter and an open bowl in summer. Phase 2 continues to the shoulder of Apharwat, colder and windier.
The Gulmarg Gondola, run by the J&K Cable Car Corporation, climbs in two phases: Gulmarg to Kongdoori, then higher towards Apharwat. Tickets are sold online on the official site in the traveller's own ID, which is checked at the gate. Peak dates sell out; a next-day Tatkal quota is released at 5 pm. Take the first slot for shorter queues and calmer wind.

What to expect
A morning on the Gondola
The base station sits a short walk from the Gulmarg meadow. Cars stop at the parking area; the queue moves by slot time, so arrive a little before yours.
Phase 1 climbs through pine forest to Kongdoori. In winter this is the snow-play area; in summer it is an open bowl with ponies and short walks.
Phase 2 is a separate queue at Kongdoori and rises to the shoulder of Apharwat. It is colder, windier and the air is thinner. On clear mornings the views run across the Pir Panjal.
