The Overland Route for Visitors From Abroad

The nights are Srinagar (three), Sonmarg, Kargil and Leh (five). It follows the Kashmir + Ladakh route, with an extra Srinagar day for Hazratbal and Hari Parbat. Leh has a planned rest day before Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey and Hemis, and a short stop at Khardung La.

The plan begins in Srinagar, with pickup at the airport or railway station, and ends on day 11 with a transfer to Leh airport, so your onward flight leaves from Leh. Suggested period: June to September. Flights, visa fees, area permits and any related fees, registration and travel insurance are not in the plan price. We do not arrange visas or guarantee permits.

• Ten nights are split Srinagar 3 · Sonmarg 1 · Kargil 1 · Leh 5. There are three changes of stay. The longest stay is 5 nights in Leh.
• 3 nights in Srinagar leave two days there that are not a transfer day.
• The day plans schedule Mughal gardens, old city, Hazratbal, Hari Parbat, shikara on Dal Lake, Thajiwas glacier area. Entry tickets, ponies and local vehicles are not included unless the inclusions list them.
• The record rates ten of the eleven scheduled days as easy and one as moderate.
• The plan price covers rooms on twin sharing in the chosen tier; breakfast and dinner daily; private cab for all transfers and sightseeing (driver, fuel, tolls, parking).

Ladakh Route Planning

• Days 5 and 6 are long drives: Sonmarg to Kargil, then Kargil to Leh.
• Day 7 is a planned rest day in Leh, with no exertion.
• Days 8–10: Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa, Thiksey and Hemis, then Khardung La.
• Day 11: transfer to Leh airport.

The pacing is part of the plan and is not shortened to fit in more places. Leh is at high altitude. Read general advice from a health authority and speak to your own doctor; we give no medical assurance and do not clear anyone as fit to travel at altitude.

• Ladakh

  Ladakh: the plan includes a rest day on arrival in Leh. Permits and fees depend on your citizenship, passport and route; the official Leh permit portal sets them, and we cannot guarantee a permit.

• Hill roads

  Cabs run with the AC off on steep hill roads.

• Winter

  Snow chains are carried in winter.

Practical Preparation for This Trip

• Arrival: share your flight or train number and time as soon as you book it. Your driver meets you at Srinagar airport or the railway station, and how much of day one remains depends on your arrival.
• Clothing: Sonmarg is higher and usually cooler than Srinagar, so carry layers whatever the month. Waterproof shoes with grip help on meadow and valley paths.
• Ladakh: expect strong sun, cold evenings and thin air. Pack sun protection, warm layers and any medicines you take, and speak to your own doctor about altitude. The plan keeps its rest day, so do not plan strenuous activity on arrival.
• Walking: one day is rated moderate in the record (for example a meadow walk or a pony or foot approach). The rest are easy. Tell us if stairs, slopes or long drives are a concern.
• Luggage: tell us the number and size of bags when you ask for a quote. It decides whether a sedan is enough or a larger vehicle is better. See the vehicle pages for luggage guidance.
• Tell us before booking: room and bedding needs, food preferences, mobility or access needs, and children’s ages. We pass them to the property and confirm what is possible; nothing is promised until your quotation states it.
