Dachigam National Park, just outside Srinagar, is the last stronghold of the endangered hangul (Kashmir stag), and also home to Himalayan black and brown bears. Entry needs a permit from the Wildlife Warden's office in Srinagar. Entry is sometimes stopped during the hangul rutting season in autumn to avoid disturbance, so we confirm before planning.

Early mornings give the best chance of wildlife and birds.
The park has one entrance/exit.
