Mughal garden · Srinagar
The garden runs along one long axis with three terraces, pavilions and fountains, shaded by old chinars.
Shalimar Bagh was built by Emperor Jahangir in 1619 and is often called the 'crown of Srinagar'. Three terraces with fountains and a long central channel run under chinar trees, about 2 km beyond Nishat Bagh. It's more enclosed and intimate than Nishat, and usually open from morning into the evening.

Late afternoon light through the chinars is lovely. It stays open into the evening in summer, closing earlier in winter.
It pairs naturally with Nishat Bagh and Hazratbal on the same loop.
