Where to Stay in Srinagar
Srinagar is where most of our itineraries begin and end, so the choice here is usually about two things: the kind of stay and where in the city it is. You can sleep in a hotel in the city, or spend a night or two on a houseboat on Dal Lake or Nigeen Lake. Several of our plans use one of each.
Because the first and last nights are often tied to your flight, think about arrival and departure times as well as the room. Tell us your flight times and we will suggest where to be based.

Location Considerations
Lake side or city side
Areas near Dal Lake, such as the Boulevard Road side, put you close to the lake and its shops and ghats. Quieter residential areas, such as Rajbagh near the Jhelum, trade that for a calmer setting. Neither is better in general; it depends on what you want to be near.
Do not assume a lake view
A hotel near the lake does not necessarily have lake-facing rooms or direct waterfront access. If a view matters, ask for it to be confirmed for the room, not the area.
Arrival and departure
Plans include airport or station pickup and drop. If your flight is early or late, tell us so we can suggest a base that keeps the transfer simple.
Driving
Srinagar is the base for day trips to nearby places and for the drives to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg. Where you sleep affects the start of those drives, so we match the stay to the route.
Houseboat or hotel
A houseboat gives you a different kind of night; a hotel is usually simpler for access and luggage. Our comparison and houseboat guide set out the questions to ask.

Ask for these to be confirmed for your room and dates. They are things to check, not facilities we promise in advance.

- Number of people per room and the occupancy you need
- Whether a child’s bed is an extra bed or a mattress

- Hot water arrangements
- Lift or stair access to your room
- Where the vehicle can stop and how far it is to your room
- Meals included and how they are served
- On a houseboat: room or whole boat, boarding and transfers
How Many Nights to Consider
Our plans spend between one and three nights in Srinagar, and several begin with a houseboat night. A longer stay suits a trip built around the city, while a shorter one suits a route that moves on quickly. We do not recommend one number; it depends on the rest of your route and pace.

Questions About Staying in Srinagar
Should I choose a hotel or a houseboat in Srinagar?
It depends on what you want from the night. A houseboat is a different experience but needs a boat transfer and some luggage handling; a hotel is simpler for access. Several of our plans use one of each, and a night can be swapped if you prefer.
Will my room have a lake view?
We cannot say in general. A lake view is a request for a specific room and is confirmed in the quote, not assumed from the area.
Which part of Srinagar is best?
There is no single best area. Lakeside areas keep you close to the lake; residential areas are quieter. Tell us what you want to be near and we propose accordingly.
Can you arrange a stay near the airport for an early flight?
Tell us your flight time and we will propose a night that works for your transfer. Whether a particular property can accommodate an early or late check-in is confirmed in the quote.
Are meals included?
Our plans are costed on breakfast and dinner, and the quote states the meal plan for each night.
