Pampore's plateaus (karewas) are the heart of Kashmiri saffron, which carries a GI tag. The purple crocus flowers bloom for only a few weeks, from late October to early November, and are picked at dawn. Outside that window, the fields look bare. Pampore is on the Srinagar–Pahalgam road, so it's an easy stop.
