High-altitude lake · Ladakh
Colours change by the hour, from turquoise to deep blue.
Pangong Tso is a long, high-altitude lake famous for shifting shades of blue, about five hours' drive from Leh over Chang La. Indian travellers carry the Ladakh fee receipt; foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit. A night in lakeside camps is best, but it's very cold after dark and at altitude, so go only after acclimatising in Leh.
