Not a separate ILP any more. Indians pay the environment and wildlife fee online at lahdclehpermit.in and carry the receipt. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.
Usually from late March–mid April to late December–January, depending on snow. Outside those months, fly to Leh.
Two slow days in Leh before going higher, plenty of water, no alcohol at first, and a gradual itinerary. See a doctor first if you have heart or lung conditions.
It can be, with a slower plan and fewer high passes. We usually suggest flying in, extra rest days, and skipping the highest passes for very young children.
Yes, in the road season. Our Kashmir + Ladakh plan drives Srinagar → Sonmarg → Kargil → Leh, which also helps you acclimatise.
June to September for open roads and mild days. May and October are quieter but colder, with some roads not yet open or starting to close.
There is no railway to Leh. Fly into Leh, or arrive in Srinagar by Vande Bharat and drive via Sonmarg, Zoji La and Kargil in the road season.
