Where to Stay in Gulmarg

Gulmarg is a high meadow, and the season changes everything about a stay there: in summer it is a green day trip or an easy night, and in winter it is a snow destination where heating and road access matter most. The choice is less about the hotel name and more about how the stay fits your activities and the weather.

The Gondola is run by the J&K Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC), and tickets are booked online by each traveller. Your accommodation does not include them. Plan your Gondola day first, then choose where to sleep around it.

Location Considerations

Close to the Gondola or further out
A stay nearer the Gondola base can make an early start easier, and a stay further along the meadow can be quieter. We do not state walking distances because we cannot verify them for a property; ask us for the position of the proposed stay relative to the base and the road.
Staying below in Tangmarg
Tangmarg is the road town on the way up. Staying there means a drive up to Gulmarg each day. Whether that suits you depends on the weather, the road and your plans.
Winter road access
In heavy snow the road up can be affected. We do not promise uninterrupted vehicle access in winter. Ask what the plan is for arrival, and whether the vehicle can reach the property or you will walk or transfer the last stretch.
Activity planning
Gondola operation depends on weather and on JKCCC. Keep your plans flexible, and avoid fixing a departure for the same afternoon as a Gondola slot.

How Many Nights to Consider

Our plans spend one night in Gulmarg on a classic route, two on a winter route and three or four on snow-focused plans. A single night fits a visit that includes the Gondola; more nights give room for weather delays and snow time. We do not recommend one number, because it depends on your season and what you want to do.

Can I walk from my hotel to the Gondola?

We do not state walking distances because we cannot verify them for each property. Ask us about the position of the proposed stay relative to the Gondola base and we will tell you what we know.

Is the road always open in winter?

No. Snow can affect the road, and we do not promise uninterrupted access. We tell you the arrangement for your dates and confirm it nearer travel.

Is Gondola entry included with my stay?

No. Gondola tickets are booked online by each traveller through the J&K Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) and are not part of your accommodation.

Will my room be heated?

Heating depends on the property. We ask for it to be confirmed for your room and we do not assume it from the property’s category.

Is one night in Gulmarg enough?

It can be, particularly for a visit built around the Gondola. Weather can disrupt a single night, so some travellers add a second. Choose the number around your route and plans.
