January is Kashmir's coldest month and its most reliably snowy one. It falls inside Chillai Kalan, the 40 harshest days of winter (about 21 December to 30 January). Gulmarg is deep in snow and ski season is on; Srinagar is cold, with occasional snowfall. The Srinagar–Leh road is closed, so Ladakh is fly-in only. Pack real winter gear.
A day-by-day outline for January. It follows KTP-005 Kashmir Winter Snow, which suits the season; your planner adjusts it to your dates.

Delays happen with fog and snow. We always keep a buffer before onward flights or trains.
