Quick answer

Apharwat is the high ridge above Gulmarg, reached by Gondola Phase 2. It's colder, windier and much higher than the town, with wide views across the Pir Panjal and, on clear days, far-off peaks. In winter it's for experienced skiers. Phase 2 pauses on windy days and isn't advised for young children or anyone with heart or breathing issues.
