Almond trees in Srinagar flower for a short window, usually mid-March to early April. The best place is Badamwari, the almond garden below Hari Parbat in the old city. It is the first sign of spring, a couple of weeks before the Tulip Garden peaks.
Badamwari
Badamwari is a restored garden of almond trees at the foot of Hari Parbat. In bloom it turns white and pale pink; on clear days the fort on the hill rises behind it. Mornings are quiet; weekends get busy with local families.
What else is in season
Late March brings the opening of the Tulip Garden (usually for three to four weeks), snow still on the peaks around Gulmarg, and fresh green in the Mughal gardens. Nights are cold; days are mild.
Planning tips
Blossom lasts only one to two weeks and rain can shorten it. Book 3 nights in Srinagar between mid-March and early April and keep the Badamwari visit flexible.
