Srinagar’s Mughal gardens step down the Zabarwan hills towards Dal Lake. Do them in one morning: Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal first (higher up), then Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh. Go before 10 am for calm terraces and soft light. Each has a small entry fee.
The four gardens
Best season
April–May for flowers, late October–November for golden chinars. In April the Tulip Garden next to Chashme Shahi is the main draw.
Practical
Garden timings and fees are set by the Floriculture Department and change by season. Allow 30–45 minutes per garden. Carry water; there are few cafés inside.
FAQ
Nishat for size and views, Shalimar for history, Pari Mahal for the lake view.
A half-day covers all four.
