The Kashmir Valley gets far less monsoon rain than most of India. July and August bring warm days, green meadows and some afternoon showers or thunderstorms. The bigger issue is on the way in: heavy rain can cause landslides on the Jammu–Srinagar road, so flying or taking the Vande Bharat train is safer.
What the weather is like
Srinagar is warm (often around 30°C in the day ) with occasional showers. Pahalgam, Sonmarg and Gulmarg are cooler and greener. Ladakh stays mostly dry.
What to watch
Landslides can close the Jammu–Srinagar highway for hours. July–August is also the Amarnath Yatra season, with extra traffic and security on the Pahalgam and Sonmarg roads. Build one buffer day into your plan.
Good trips for this season
Meadows, treks (Great Lakes, Tarsar–Marsar), Ladakh road trips and Gurez are at their best. Rafting is lively. Book early — it is also school-holiday season for some travellers.
