Choose Kashmir if…

- You are happy to fly to Srinagar, or take a train via Katra, and then travel by road.
- You want a trip that can be built around one base such as Srinagar with day trips, or several.
Choose Himachal if…
- You prefer a hill-town trip reached largely by road from the plains.
- You are comfortable checking road, flight and season details for Himachal with a Himachal operator or official sources.
- The signature houseboat and lake experiences of Kashmir are not a priority.

What Really Changes the Decision
How the two differ in kind
Kashmir’s signature experiences are specific to Srinagar’s lakes and houseboats, the Mughal gardens, and the high meadows of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg. If a houseboat night or Gulmarg’s Gondola is on your list, Kashmir is the region that has them. If a hill-town trip by road is what you want, other regions may fit better.
Getting there depends on where you start
From many cities there is a flight to Srinagar. The railway reaches Srinagar via Katra, with a change at Katra for trains from Delhi. Time, Route and Logistics
Nights and routes
For Kashmir, our four- to six-night plans use Srinagar plus one or two hill stops. For Himachal, route and nights should come from a Himachal operator. We do not give one-size-fits-all travel times.
Cost Considerations
We do not price Himachal trips, so we cannot compare totals.

Which is better for a first trip?
It depends on what you want: Kashmir for lakes, houseboats, gardens and Gulmarg; Himachal for hill towns reached by road. We can only plan the Kashmir side.
Which is closer to Delhi by road?
We do not publish road times for Himachal, and Kashmir is usually reached by flight or train via Katra. Compare journey time from your own starting city.
Which has better skiing?
Gulmarg is Kashmir’s established ski area, with December to March as its snow months. We cannot make a statement about Himachal; check it separately.
