For trains from Delhi the practical route is Delhi to Katra on one train, then Katra to Srinagar on a Vande Bharat service of about three hours. Jammu Tawi and Srinagar are also joined by a direct Vande Bharat service that takes 4 hours 50 minutes on the published timetable. Allow extra time at Katra for the security check before boarding valley-bound trains.
Flying
Flying puts you at Srinagar airport, in the city. Whether there is a direct flight from your city and how long it takes depends on the airline and the date, so we do not state a flying time for every city. Weather, including fog and snow in winter, can delay flights; the same applies on the ground, so keep slack on arrival and departure days.
Arrival and departure days
Either way, plan the first day lightly. If you arrive by train, your driver can meet you at the Srinagar station exit. Allow extra time on the way home: both airports and railway stations have security checks before departure.

At the time of checking there is no through train; you change at Katra. A direct overnight service has been reported as planned but is not confirmed, so check IRCTC.
