Srinagar to Gulmarg
Srinagar to Gulmarg is about 50 km via Magam and Tangmarg, usually 1.5–2 hours. The last stretch climbs through pine forest above Tangmarg. After heavy snow, clearing and chains can add an hour. Leave early if you have a morning Gondola slot; the Gulmarg Gondola is booked online in your own ID.
Gulmarg to Pahalgam
Gulmarg to Pahalgam is about 145 km, usually 4–4.5 hours: down through Tangmarg, around Srinagar and along the Pampore–Anantnag highway into the Lidder valley. It's the longest drive on most Kashmir plans, so break it at Awantipora or Pampore. In Yatra weeks, the Pahalgam end can be slower.
Arriving by train (Vande Bharat) & station pickup
Vande Bharat to Kashmir. Since June 2025 trains run into the valley on the Udhampur–Srinagar line. The direct Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat takes about 4 h 50 min; trains also run from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Timings change — check IRCTC/NTES (139) before booking. Tatkal for AC classes opens one day before at 10 am.
