What to eat
Wazwan (Non-veg) — The Kashmiri multi-course feast: rogan josh, rista, gushtaba, yakhni, tabak maaz. Best at a proper wazwan restaurant or a wedding-style meal.
Harissa (Non-veg, winter) — Slow-cooked mutton breakfast dish, a winter speciality (roughly Nov–Mar) from old-city shops, eaten with fresh bread.
Kahwa (Veg) — Green tea with saffron, cardamom, cinnamon and almonds; served everywhere, including on shikaras.
Noon chai (Veg) — Pink salted tea, the everyday local drink, with bread from the kandur (baker).
