The traditional route starts at Chandanwari above Pahalgam and climbs via Pissu Top, Sheshnag and Mahagunas Pass to Panchtarni and the cave — about 32–36 km one way over 3–4 days with nights in yatra camps. It is longer but more gradual than Baltal, with some of the most beautiful scenery of the yatra.
At a glance
Stages
Chandanwari → Pissu Top → Sheshnag (night) → Mahagunas Pass → Panchtarni (night) → Holy Cave. Many pilgrims return via Baltal after darshan, which shortens the way back. Camps provide basic tents, langars and medical posts.
Our usual plan
Arrive Srinagar → Pahalgam (stay), start from Chandanwari within the permitted timings, return via Baltal, and add a buffer day. See the Pahalgam package.
Official bookings and our role
We are a private trip planner, not a shrine board. Registration, permits, helicopter tickets and darshan slots are only through the official shrine board channels; we help you plan around them.
FAQ
It is longer but less steep, and spread over several days, which many pilgrims find easier on the body.
