Srinagar to Sonmarg

Srinagar to Sonmarg is about 80–87 km along the Sindh river via Ganderbal and Kangan, usually 2.5–3 hours. Since the Z-Morh (Sonamarg) tunnel opened on 13 January 2025, the road stays open to Sonmarg in winter too. Beyond Sonmarg, Zoji La to Ladakh is seasonal. Leave early for a relaxed Thajiwas glacier day.

Sonmarg to Leh via Zoji La

From Sonmarg, the road climbs to Zoji La (about 3,528 m) and drops into Ladakh via Drass and Kargil before continuing to Leh. Most travellers split it with a night in Kargil. Zoji La usually opens between late March and mid-April and closes in late December or January; check the traffic advisory daily.

Pahalgam to Sonmarg

There's no direct tourist road from Pahalgam to Sonmarg; you drive back towards Srinagar and up the Sindh valley, roughly 180 km and 5–6 hours. Most plans avoid this by doing Sonmarg as a day trip from Srinagar. If you must, leave early and break at Pampore or Kheer Bhawani.

Arriving by train (Vande Bharat) & station pickup

Vande Bharat to Kashmir. Since June 2025 trains run into the valley on the Udhampur–Srinagar line. The direct Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat takes about 4 h 50 min; trains also run from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Timings change — check IRCTC/NTES (139) before booking. Tatkal for AC classes opens one day before at 10 am.

Station pickup: From Srinagar station it's roughly 80–90 km to Sonmarg; we pick you up at the station.
