April vs October
They are often called Kashmir’s two beautiful shoulder-season months. They offer different things.
The decision this page helps with: Which month fits your priorities: spring blossom or autumn colour?
The Short Answer
Choose by the sight you want most; you cannot see both in one trip.
Choose April if…
- Tulips and spring blossom are the priority: the Tulip Garden opens only in a short spring season.
- You are comfortable with a month that our rate card treats as Peak.
- You want the road to Leh to be possible: it often reopens around then.
Choose October if…
- You want chinar trees in red and gold and clear skies.
- You would like saffron fields: late October into early November around Pampore.
- You prefer a rate-card Shoulder month and can handle cold nights.
Tulip Garden dates are set each year; chinar and saffron timing varies. Check close to your dates.

What Really Changes the Decision
Different highlights, different timing
April is built around spring colour: tulips and blossoms in Srinagar’s gardens and orchards. The Tulip Garden opens only in a short spring window; the exact opening and closing dates are set each year. October is built around chinar trees turning red and gold and clear skies, with saffron flowers around Pampore from late October into early November. If you see the saffron fields depends on your exact dates.
Weather and comfort
April can be showery and mild. October is usually clearer but colder at night. Both need layers. In April Gulmarg’s snow retreats upwards; in October the valley rarely sees snow.
Price band and what it means
Our rate card puts April in the Peak band and October in the Shoulder band, so the same plan has a different indicative price in each month. The table below holds everything else constant.
